Next 20 years – Prof. Leszek Balcerowicz Lecture

On the 12th of December 2015, the Polish Business Society organised a lecture with Professor Leszek Balcerowicz, which audience included members from various Polish organisations in the UK including: Polish City Club, Polish Professionals in London, European Bank for Research and Development and Federation of Polish Student Societies in the UK.

IMG_1392 copyLeszek Balcerowicz, born January 19, 1947 in Lipno is a famous Polish economist, the former chairman of the National Bank of Poland and Deputy Prime Minister in Tadeusz Mazowiecki’s government, which was established after the fall of Communist regime in Poland. He is most famous for implementing the Polish economic transformation program in the 1990s, a shock therapy commonly referred to as the Balcerowicz Plan influenced by Jeffrey Sachs’s ideas. Yet today he still is a very important figure and economic advisor. In June 2008 he was appointed chairman of the board of the European think-tank Bruegel. In October of the same year he became a vice-president of the International Atlantic Economic Society, and started working for the EU seeking ways out of the economic crisis.
His work has been widely recognised. Balcerowicz carries many honorary degrees from various countries and in 2005 he has been awarded with the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
